The art of grieving

What is The Art of Grieving?

Grief is a common response to loss. A loss is a significant change in our lives, especially if it involves expectations, hopes, and dreams for ourselves and for others. Bereavement could be a very hard period in our lives, and it may involve feeling anxious and overwhelmed.

As the grieving process is so unique to each individual, there is no manual to go through with it, however, engaging in creative activities could help the bereaved person evolve and adapt to their new reality.

As the CRL is committed to responding compassionately to the emotional, spiritual, and psychological distress of individuals and families affected by reproductive loss, we encourage them to participate in knitting, painting, and dancing activities to help them regulate the highs and lows of their grieving process toward their journey of healing.

“Their art speaks where words are unable to explain.”

The art of grieving through KNITTING

Paulina Ramirez

Meet Paulina

Facing a combination of health challenges, including Addison’s disease, Fibromyalgia, and Degenerative Disc disease, could have easily felt overwhelming. However, instead of letting these diagnoses define her, Paulina Ramirez chose to embrace creativity as her coping mechanism. It became her beacon of hope, guiding her through the toughest of times.

Today, she’s turned her journey into something truly empowering. By infusing her designs with diverse elements and construction techniques, she’s created a fashion line called “You need I knit” YNIK that celebrates every body shape and size, emphasizing plus-size individuals.

Going through a reproductive loss herself, Paulina offers knitting workshops to help those who are grieving express their pain through the yarn and needle.

The art of grieving through DANCE

Meet Adrian

While Adrian may not hold any formal certifications in dance, his passion for music knows no bounds. For Adrian, dance is more than just a hobby; it's a lifeline, a source of strength that empowers him to embrace life with open arms.

Adrian's journey has been marked by loss, having endured the pain of losing two precious babies. Yet, amidst the sadness, he kept dancing to the beats of Latin-American music like salsa and cumbia.

He would like to share his love for music with others, creating a space where everyone who has gone through a reproductive loss can find joy through dancing. With infectious enthusiasm and a warm smile, he invites others to find healing by connecting to oneself, to others, and to the rich cultural heritage of Mexico.
